Jennifer E. McCanney
“The experience I gained as a prosecutor where I was responsible for advocating for victims, has strengthened my ability to represent injured victims, and anticipate the arguments prosecutors will make, allowing me to effectively defend those who are charged with crimes.”

Personal Injury and Criminal Defense Attorney
Jennifer E. McCanney is an attorney at LaMarche Safranko Law PLLC, where she represents individuals who have been injured or accused of a crime throughout Albany, the Capital Region, and Upstate New York. Known for her extensive courtroom experience and unwavering commitment to justice, Jennifer brings exceptional skill and compassion to every case she handles.
Born and raised in Woodstock, New York, Jennifer earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from the University at Albany (2005) and her Juris Doctor from Albany Law School (2009). During law school, she distinguished herself as Chairman of the Women’s Law Caucus and a leading competitor in the Moot Court Program. She was awarded the prestigious Kate Stoneman Student Award, recognizing her leadership and commitment to advancing women in the legal profession. Jennifer has also remained active with Albany Law School, participating in career panels and serving as a Judge in the Senior Prize Trials.
Jennifer’s legal career began at the Albany County District Attorney’s Office, where she interned during law school and was hired as a prosecutor immediately after graduation. She served as the designated prosecutor in Albany City Court’s Domestic Violence Court until 2013, when she was promoted to the Special Victims Unit and later appointed Bureau Chief. Over the next eleven years, she successfully prosecuted complex felony cases involving domestic violence, sexual assault, kidnapping, child abuse, and homicide, earning a reputation as a formidable and highly skilled trial attorney.
In January 2022, Jennifer was promoted to Bureau Chief of the Local Court Unit, where she supervised and trained prosecutors handling local court matters and managed serious felony cases, including homicide prosecutions. Her deep understanding of criminal law, refined courtroom skills, and leadership experience further solidified her standing as one of the region’s most respected litigators.
Today, Jennifer brings her extensive trial background to her work as an Albany personal injury lawyer and criminal defense attorney. Her ability to analyze cases from both sides of the courtroom allows her to develop powerful strategies for clients who are injured or facing criminal charges.
“Spending fifteen years in the courtroom every day has provided me with the knowledge and confidence required to successfully litigate any case,” Jennifer reflects. “I will use the same passion and zeal I displayed when advocating for victims to ensure my clients receive the justice and representation they deserve.”
Jennifer’s decision to join LaMarche Safranko Law was shaped by her long-standing respect for the firm’s attorneys. “During my time at the DA’s office, I greatly admired how the attorneys at LaMarche Safranko Law tirelessly advocated for their clients. After seeing judges, police officers, and other respected colleagues consistently refer their family and friends to the firm, I knew it was a culture I would be proud to be part of.”
